We at TROCKI-GORDON SUPPLY have serviced our industrial customers with solutions to seal the most difficult rotary shaft or static flanged connection. We find it equally important to focus on pipe stress and the effect it has on rotary equipment.

Pipe Strain - piping imposed force and torque on the pump.

Caused By:

  • Temperature fluctuations
  • Flange misalignment
  • Lack of proper support or hangers
  • Pressure surges

Implications:

  • Distortion of pump casing and bearing housing
  • Flange leakage
  • Coupling misalignment
  • In severe cases cracking of flanges or pump casing
  • Vibration
  • Short seal and bearing life - due to wear and contact

Solution: Can be resolved by using an expansion joint at suction and discharge.

To check for pipe strain place dial indicators on the pump shaft and record both horizontal and vertical movement before connecting flanges. Flanges should be lined up and fastened while continuous observing indicator readings. Indicator movement should not exceed 2 mils or (0.002")

We provide expansion joints for all industrial applications. High temperature fabric with insulating layers for hot gases and vapours. Corrugated stainless steel and alloys with flanged or butt weld ends. Standard rubber joints selected to meet service requirements.
